Dr. Jonathan Irish honoured for service to health sciences

Congratulations to Dr. Jonathan Irish for recently being elected as a Fellow to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences for 2024. The honour is a well-deserved recognition for his dedication and excellence in the field of cancer care.

Dr. Irish is Vice-President, Clinical, Cancer Programs, Ontario Health-Cancer Care Ontario. He is also Professor and Head of the Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery Division at the University of Toronto, as well as a surgical oncologist and reconstructive surgeon and surgeon-scientist. He is also a senior scientist at Princess Margaret leading research in nanoparticle-directed theranostics research in head and neck, lung, prostate and gynaecological cancer.

Dr. Irish’s contributions have had an immeasurable impact on cancer surgery patients by advancing access to high-quality surgical care across Ontario. This has included previously providing clinical leadership in access to care, the building of designated centres for complex cancer surgeries, and facilitating a culture of quality improvement through funding and performance management.

Election to Fellowship in the Academy is one of the highest honours in the Canadian health sciences community, reflecting a commitment to serve the Academy and advance health sciences across all disciplines.
