Position Summary

Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Transplant Medical Advisor – Infectious Diseases, Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN). This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the evolution of the Ontario Transplant system.  This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

Accountabilities

The Transplant Medical Advisor – Infectious Diseases provides specialized clinical expertise to support the safe and effective delivery of organ donation and transplantation services across Ontario. The advisor offers expert consultation on infectious disease risks related to organ donation and transplantation, including donor-derived infections, recipient eligibility considerations, and other potential infectious areas of concern. Working collaboratively with transplant physicians, infectious disease specialists, donation and transplant programs, and provincial health system partners, the advisor supports evidence-informed decision-making, clinical policy development, and quality improvement initiatives to ensure patient safety and public trust in the transplant system. The Transplant Medical Advisor – Infectious Diseases will support specific operational and strategic prioties, providing clinical expertise to programs.  

The primary responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Contribute to the development and review of clinical policies, guidance documents, and protocols related to infectious diseases in the context of organ donation and transplantation.
  • Provide clinical expertise to support the development of provincial standards, best practices, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide expert infectious disease consultation related to organ donation and transplantation, including assessment of donor-derived infection risks and recipient suitability considerations.
  • Support clinical decision-making related to complex infectious disease scenarios involving potential organ donors and transplant recipients.
  • Advise on emerging infectious threats and their potential implications for transplantation practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in organ transplantation and infectious diseases
  • Actively practicing physician and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and other relevant college
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ontario's health care system, health care delivery program operations, community-based health care delivery models and related regulations
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and management of donor-derived infections and transplant infectious disease risks.
  • Experience collaborating with transplant programs, transplant physicians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Familiarity with provincial, national, and international standards related to transplant infectious disease risk management.
  • Strong issues management and communication skills with ability to provide clear clinical guidance in complex or time-sensitive situations.
