Position Summary

Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Transplant Medical Lead – Heart, Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN). This is a unique opportunity to promote a culture of transplantation in Ontario and provide leadership and expertise to the evolution of the provincial transplant system.  This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

Accountabilities

The Transplant Medical Lead – Heart provides provincial clinical leadership and expertise to support the safe, equitable, and effective delivery of heart transplantation services across Ontario. The role provides expert clinical advice on matters related to heart transplant eligibility, organ allocation, donor suitability, and emerging clinical issues affecting heart transplantation.

Working closely with heart transplant programs partners including, transplant surgeons, cardiologists, and other provincial health system partners, the Transplant Medical Lead – Heart supports clinical decision-making, policy development, and system improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality heart transplantation services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Co-Chairs and provides medical leadership to the Provincial Heart Working Group.
• Provides expert clinical advice related to heart transplantation, including donor suitability, organ acceptance considerations, and recipient listing criteria.
• Provide clinical leadership to support the planning, coordination, and continuous improvement of heart transplantation services across Ontario.
• Advises on emerging and innovative practices in heart transplantation, including new clinical technologies, approaches to donor utilization, and evolving models of care that may improve patient outcomes and system performance.
• Collaborates with transplant program partners including surgeons, clinicians, multi-disciplinary staff, and other donation and transplantation partners across Ontario.
• Participates in relevant provincial committees, working groups and other advisory groups as needed.
• Supports transplant strategy implementation across Ontario and other system improvements by working with Provincial Medical Director, Transplant.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in heart transplantation
• Actively practicing physician and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and other relevant college
• Demonstrated understanding of Ontario's health care system, health care delivery program operations, community-based health care delivery models and related regulations
• Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and management of advanced heart failure programs, or health system initiatives.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in collaborating with transplant programs, transplant physicians, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
• Strong understanding of clinical, operational, and ethical considerations in organ donation and transplantation
• Familiarity with provincial, national, and international standards related to advanced heart failure management.
• Strong issues management and communication skills with ability to provide clear clinical guidance in complex or time-sensitive situations.
