Position summary

Ontario Health is seeking expressions of interest from physicians for the position of Ontario Cervical Screening Program, Clinical Lead. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the evolution of the Ontario cancer system and provide advice on all aspects of the Ontario Cervical Screening Program. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

Accountabilities

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provides strong, visionary leadership at the provincial level as well as clinical and strategic advice to the Ontario Cervical Screening Program (OCSP).
  • Ensures evidence-based guidance for cervical screening and management of screen-detected abnormalities in colposcopy.
  • Champions initiatives to promote alignment with Ontario Health’s cervical screening recommendations and colposcopy best practice pathways in the clinical community.
  • Provides strong leadership for the regional Cervical Screening and Colposcopy Leads (CSCLs), including leading CSCL face-to-face and virtual meetings and providing guidance for the CSCLs.
  • Collaborates with the Provincial Primary Care Lead and Ontario Health leadership and staff to provide strategic guidance and expertise in the development of program policy, design and management.
  • Establishes and maintains effective links with relevant clinical communities on behalf of Ontario Health.
  • Develops and supports execution of strategies to engage health care providers (including primary care providers, colposcopists and pathologists) involved in cervical screening and colposcopy.
  • Champions/promotes the strategic vision of the OCSP and the program goals to improve screening participation and follow up of abnormal results.
  • Responds to clinical questions, and represents the program in the community, at regional, provincial and national meetings, and in the media.
  • Identifies and responds to system and program level issues.
  • Participates as an active member of Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario)’s Clinical Council.
  • Chairs expert panels and working groups as well as the Ontario Colposcopy Community of Practice webinars.
  • Represents Ontario Health in pan-Canadian groups (e.g., Canadian Partnership Against Cancer’s Pan-Canadian Cervical Screening Network).
  • Collaborates, where necessary, with other groups within Ontario Health on issues which impact cervical screening (e.g., Ontario Gynecologic Cancers Lead) as well as with the clinical leads of the other cancer screening programs.

Qualifications

  • A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with subspecialty training in obstetrics and gynecology, licensed to practice in Ontario for the duration of the contract.
  • Active staff appointment at a public hospital in Ontario for the duration of the contract.
  • Formal training in colposcopy.
  • Perform a minimum of 100 combined cervical and vaginal colposcopies per year, primarily arising from abnormal cervical screening.
  • Expertise in population-based cancer screening programs.
  • Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, quality improvement in cervical screening and colposcopy at the provincial/system level.
  • Knowledge of both hospital and out-of-hospital colposcopy practices.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuing education in relevant fields.
  • Recognized as an opinion leader within the professional community.
  • Experience in leadership positions at provincial, regional and/or local level.
  • Knowledge of clinical, administrative and system issues with respect to cervical screening and colposcopy.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information, make sound decisions and communicate these to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build consensus.
  • Knowledge of current and new/emerging cervical screening and colposcopy guidelines.
  • Models and supports behaviour consistent with the People Values of Ontario Health and a commitment to Ontario Health’s Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Anti-Racism Framework.
