gcConnect: Connecting Clinicians to Genetics Expertise
gcConnect supports Ontario clinicians navigating genetic testing and services in Ontario.
This province-wide clinician support service is delivered through a network of genetic counsellors. It aims to:
- expand access to genetic testing by supporting non-genetics clinicians in ordering tests within their scope of practice
- build skills and knowledge through targeted education and training
- provide real-time support by phone and email, connecting clinicians directly with a genetic counsellor

gcConnect Regional Education Program
Genetic counsellors from our regional partner sites offer educational talks and training tailored to non-genetics clinicians, with a focus on Ontario Health’s genetics guidance documents.
To inquire about genetics education for a clinician group, please send us an email.
Order Genetic Testing as a Non-Genetics Clinician
In some cases, non-genetics professionals may need to order genetic testing. Clinicians should decide if the services are within their scope or if they should refer to a specialist.
Use the gcConnect Resource Line to discuss a specific situation. Find referral guidance documents for some conditions at Genetics Guidance.
