Rural Family Medicine Locum Program: Community/Rural Physician Eligibility and Participation
Eligibility Criteria
All physicians funded via a Rural Northern Physician Group Agreement (RNPGA) are eligible for the Rural Family Medicine Locum Program.
Non-RNPGA community criteria:
- Rurality Index of Ontario (RIO) score ≥ 75, or
- RIO ≥ 40 and < 75 and no more than 7 full-time family physicians in the community
Check your community’s RIO score.
Non-RNPGA Physician criteria:
- Physicians must be working full time based on community definition
- Physicians must spend at least 50% of the community definition of full-time providing primary care services
Participation
Finding a Locum Physician
Eligible communities find their locum physicians directly.
Post your locum opportunity on HFOJobs if you need assistance finding locum coverage.
Initiating a Locum Assignment
Once you have a found a locum physician, please complete the Application to Acquire Locum Service Form to initiate the contract.
After you receive your contract from RFMLP, ensure the identified rural physician(s) and the locum physician sign the contract, and submit to rfmlp@ontariohealth.ca.
Communities are to provide all locum physicians the following forms prior to the locum assignment.
- Confirmation of Banking Information Form. This form is to be used by new physicians and physicians who need to update their banking information.
- Locum Physician Expense Form. Locum physicians are to use one expense form for each authorized assignment period.
Note: Locum physicians are to make their own travel arrangements. All eligible stipends and travel expenses are paid directly to the locum physician. (RFMLP cannot reimburse communities for any physician travel expenses).
