Temporary Reimbursement of Fees for Internationally Educated and Inactive Nurses

The government of Ontario is temporarily covering the costs of fees associated with General Class and Temporary Class Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) for inactive or internationally educated nurses.

The goal is to help address financial barriers that may be preventing inactive or internationally educated nurses from getting their license to resume or begin practicing nursing.

Who is eligible for reimbursement through this program?

Internationally educated nurses and inactive nurses who submit, or have submitted, their Reinstatement or General Class registration applications to the CNO between August 18, 2022, to March 31, 2026, are eligible for the program.

Expenses incurred between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2026, are eligible for reimbursement.

In order to receive reimbursement for any expenses, an applicant must have a Canadian bank account in their name.

Fees incurred between April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026, for the following application steps may be eligible for reimbursement:

  • Application to CNO (both General and Temporary Class)
  • Jurisprudence Exam
  • Language Proficiency Test
  • Background Check
  • Registration Exam
  • CNO Initial Registration and Annual Membership Fee
