Emergency Department Locum Program

The Emergency Department Locum Program is a provincial program designed to provide urgent locum coverage as an interim measure of last resort to designated hospitals that are facing significant challenges covering physician shifts.

Participating hospitals receive assistance on an interim basis while they continue to pursue all options for coverage, including physician recruitment efforts.

Under the Program, physicians from emergency departments in Ontario who are able to maintain their full-time home hospital commitments, assist other designated hospitals in the province with coverage. Program staff work with participating hospitals and physicians to coordinate shift coverage using the EDLP Shift Scheduler for Hospitals and Physicians.
