Emergency Department Locum Program: Physician Eligibility and Participation

Eligibility Criteria

The Program is designed to increase emergency department physician capacity in the system and to do so, promotes physicians having stable, full-time commitments in Ontario while providing additional coverage over and above their full-time position. 

For participation in our primary program streams, physicians must work the equivalent of full-time (up to a maximum of two emergency departments) in an Ontario ED and agree to take on additional work via EDLP over and above this full-time commitment. Physicians are also required to keep the program up to date on any changes to their reported commitments throughout their participation with the program to confirm ongoing eligibility.

Physicians must have either: 

• CCFP (EM) or FRCP (EM) qualifications
• Equivalent of one year of full-time emergecy de[partment experience (with independent practice license) within the last three years, and current ATLS and ACLS.

Physicians must work full-time in an Ontario ED (maximum of two EDs) and must not reduce their service commitments to these home hospital(s).
